My quirky habit is that I am extremely particular about the arrangement of silverware in the dishwasher. Silverware needs to be segregated by type into each section. Our dishwasher’s silverware baskets are arranged in one long line; starting with two small compartments, one large, and then two small, and one large. The silverware needs to go in the same compartment each time. The first two small compartments are reserved for knives, which are to be placed in the basket blade-down. The first large compartment gets spoons of all sizes (handle down). The next small compartment is for forks (handle down). The other small compartment and the last large compartment are for miscellaneous items, such as the garlic press, very small lids, measuring spoons, pizza cutters, and other utensils. In the case of large family dinners the extra compartments may serve as overflow for regular silverware.
If I open the dishwasher and the silverware is not to my liking, I will re-arrange it. I even made up a song for my father so that he would know how to put the silverware in correctly.
As a side note, I realize that this is a fully ridiculous habit and the arrangement of the silverware is insignificant in life. However, it makes me feel good that everything is in order.
